Base: All the Essentials

The base trim of the 2018 Sierra 1500 may be an entry-level trim, but it comes with all the essentials that you’d want in a pickup truck.

A 4.3-liter V6 that delivers 305 pound-feet of torque and 285 horsepower is paired with a six-speed transmission for plenty of power. With a Tow/Haul mode and an electronic trailer sway control that both come standard, this version of the truck has no problem towing up to 5,500 pounds. The traction control and available four-wheel drive ensure you can tow on slippery boat ramps, muddy construction sites and anywhere else you might need to go.

Other features on the base trim are a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, a USB connection, a rearview camera, cruise control, and power windows and doors. Two packages, a Convenience package, and an Elevation package can be added. The former brings on board a few niceties, such as a 110-volt outlet and keyless entry, and the latter comes with Wi-Fi and 4G LTE.

SLE: More Options

The 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 SLEs available near DeKalb, Il has a few upgrades, including a leather steering wheel, a bigger touchscreen display and a damped tailgate. The real reason to opt for this trim, however, is so you can choose from a greater variety of package options. The packages available on this trim are a:

A 5.3.-liter V8 that produces 383 pound-feet of torque and 355 horsepower comes standard at this trim level, and a 6.2-liter beast is available. The larger 6.2-liter generates 460 pound-feet and 420 horsepower, and it’ll tow up to 9,300 pounds with the right trailering equipment.

Other equipment on the SLT includes leather upholstery, heated seats (which are really nice in Illinois), and heated and power-folding mirrors. The primary package option is the Enhanced Driver Alert package, although other features can also be added. A few of the optional items are a heated steering wheel, rear parking sensors, LED headlights, navigation, a Bose audio system, and a sunroof.

Denali: Loaded

Like GMC’s other Denali models, the 2018 Sierra 1500 Denali is loaded. It comes with most everything included on the other trim options, including all the available driver-assist features. Adaptive suspension dampers, interior accents, and 20-inch wheels are also added on.
